Chocolate Cake and BBQ Sauce Recipe’s

I tried out the following recipes yesterday and sampled them with my family.

Everyone really liked them both. Try them and tell me how you like them! Enjoy!

CHOCOLATE CAKE

1 Cup Guinness Extra Stout

3/4 Cup Olive Oil

6 Tablespoons Hershey’s Cocoa Powder

1 Cup Honey ( If you want it sweeter use 1 1/2 cups )

6 Tablespoons Plain Greek Yogurt

2 Eggs

1 Tablespoon Vanilla

2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour

Two 1/2 Teaspoons Baking Soda

Two 1/2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

Set oven to 350 ( 30-40 Minutes ) ( I like to check every 20 minutes on my oven )

Spray pans with Olive Oil spray and lightly flour.

Mix Guinness with the Olive Oil. Add Eggs.

Heat the Honey in microwave till runny and then whisk in the Cocoa Powder, then

add this to the Guinness, oil and egg mixture, add the Greek yogurt and vanilla.

Sift all the flour and dry ingredients in separate bowl.

Add dry to the wet with rubber spatula, mix then pour batter into pans.

I did not make a frosting for this cake. I eat it plain and it turned out pretty good. I used a Cup of Honey and the sweetness is subtle. I might add more honey next time but everyone seemed to like it the way it was with one cup.

BBQ Sauce

2 Teaspoons of Olive Oil

3/4 Cup Ketchup ( I used one that had no HFCS. High Fructose Corn Syrup )

1/2 Cup 100% Apple Juice

1/4 Cup Maple Syrup ( I used the Agave and Maple blend from Trader Joe’s )

3/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar

1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard

1 Tablespoon Low Sodium Soy Sauce

1/2 Teaspoon Hot Sauce ( I used Red Devil )

5 Cloves Garlic chopped

1 Small Onion chopped

 

Saute the Onion and Garlic with the Olive Oil then,

ADD all ingredients to a pan and heat at Medium-Low and simmer sauce uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Carefully pour contents of pan into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.

It will last two weeks in your refrigerator. I used it on top of my Turkey burgers as I grilled them last night.

It is a good flavor and aroma! I will make this again! 🙂

Why spend 3-5 dollars on just one of these when you could make 4-5 refills for 3-5 dollars?

All you need is a gallon bottle of Distilled water which is a dollar or less at most stores, then you need a bottle of any fabric softener. Your choice scent and brand. I use the dollar one at Walmart and it smells great.

First you pour out 16 oz of the Distilled water. You replace that 16 oz with the fabric softener. Close water jug and shake to mix. This will fill your empty Febreze bottle or spray bottle 4-5 times. It will last if you use Distilled water. It does not stain, ( at least never has for me ) and it smells great and it is cheap!

Obviously if you can not tolerate fabric softener or you want something more natural this is not for you.

Vacuum Powder

You could use baking soda with a few drops of essential oil. It is also cheaper and smells good!

Want some healthy soda?

Get a two liter bottle of Seltzer water. Zero Sodium, Calories etc.

Pour out or drink one cup of Seltzer. Replace that cup with any kind of 100% juice. I like one cup but you might want more depending on flavor you desire. Most juices are 110 – 130 calories per cup so a glass of this would be about 30-40 calories. That is easy to burn off. No junky chemicals and Seltzer does not interrupt calcium absorption. (Myth ) Tastes so good!

Ingredients

Wet

3/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
3/4 cup honey (unfiltered)
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract (I advise against using imitation vanilla)
1 large egg

Dry

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup whole grain rolled oats
1 Tablespoon Flax Seed (optional)
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. fine sea salt
1 Cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350

Ground your rolled oats and flax seed in food processor.
Sift your Flour and seasonings
Add wet to dry and mix, add chocolate chips last.
Scoop onto baking sheets. I use a small scoop.
Makes 30 cookies

Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes

I do not have the calorie or fat info but compared to store bought processed crap I guarantee these are better for you.
